Calgary Dream Centre

Calgary Dream Centre

The Calgary Dream Centre is a refurbished hotel on Macleod Trail which provides supportive housing for men. Recently the Dream Centre has expanded to include a permanent scattered housing program, to situate men back into the community it a supportive way.

Currently there are 125 men living at the Calgary Dream Centre (CDC) main building and throughout 2011 we will grow the scattered housing to include approximately 170 bedrooms across the City of Calgary.

25 men are in the Program Stream, which means that they live at CDC and take life skills, relapse prevention, and other related classes or sessions during the day and then, as their contribution to the cost of operating CDC, they must complete various daily tasks (including household chores) to assist us in the maintenance and up-keep of CDC. These Program Stream men are in a three month program and upon graduation they will either move out of CDC and back into society or they may transfer to the Transitional Stream.

In the Transitional Stream the majority of the men are coming off the streets or from other unhealthy living arrangements and need a safe environment within which to establish a healthier life-style and/or healthier – safer living arrangements. They pay rent and are provided with three meals a day, clean, comfortable, shared accommodation and clothes or other items they may require for basic day-to-day living. This gives them an opportunity to save money and stabilize their life while residing in a clean, safe and stress free environment.

CDC is a zero tolerance facility, and has the ability to test all residents for substances right at CDC.

The Calgary Dream Centre is a part of the City of Calgary’s Ten Year Plan to Eradicate Homelessness. With our innovated structured living the Calgary Dream Centre has had great success helping many men rebuild their lives and has had the incredible fortune of witnessing many of the residents move back into everyday life within the City of Calgary as healthy productive members of society.
